Fishermen Fishing Report Friday 7/30/10

Finally, some normal weather to enjoy...probably the best day of the season so far, no humidity, a nice breeze and catching Fluke! Doesn't get any better than that....

Started in the bay this morning as I was a little leary on the conditions in the ocean. Had a dozen keepers on the first drift with some shorts mixed in.
Hung in there till 10:30 then headed…

Bluefin report 7-29

By JIM FREDA
COLUMNIST

Some good bluefin tuna have been taken in the last two weeks as a large body of fish has been 35 to 50 miles out.

Boaters traveling from east of the Glory Hole to the Chicken Canyon have been doing well. It looks as if the start of the long-awaited run that everyone has been anticipating is upon us.

The $320,500 in Calcuttas doesn't just top last years $228,000, it blows it out of the water. Not shabby for the World's Oldest White Marlin Tournament. Good Luck to all of the anglers participating and…

JULY 29th Report

The blues continue to play hard to get with the spawn, however we see signs of the bite improving over the last few days with some blues getting more aggressive and taking jigs while chasing bait along the beach. The full moon is behind us and that usually means that the bite will get better and then back to the normal late summer bite!!…

Again, nothing quite new to pass along.
Big deal of the day was a drenching thunderstorm dumping much needed rain. The rain came down heavy and fast which means a lot of run off. I believe this will probably effect the crabbing too.

Broken record, fluke and sharks and scattered blues. That's about it. It has been in a rut or I guess you could say SSDD as far as fishing goes. The fluke off the surf is still the same as it has been no improvement there.

Bigger fluke are being caught on The Axel Carlson reef now as I was out on Saturday and most of the fish in this area were in the 3-6lb range. They were all over the bigger baits as opposed to the usual spearing/squid baits. Started just east of the Princess at 6:30am. Double header on mid thirty inch fish almost immediately. Nothing but skippies and bluefish the rest of the day. Lots of bait and bird life in the area. Two moves into the north end of the Chicken produced nothing with less signs of life than further inshore. Bluefin hit Reel Seat spreader bars off the riggers.
